Now this isn’t likely to become a habit but it is amazing to me that they even made it. The kids wanted to know if they could stay up one night as late as we do. So we told them that one night they could stay up as late as they could stand it. Tonight was the night. We rented a couple of movies and settled in to watch. Ben made it till at least 11:50 pm and Becca and James made it through both movies till 12:30 am. It was kinda fun, all snuggled in together to watch movies. Bambi 2 and the new Charlotte’s Web. We’ll see if we regret it in the morning if they get up at their normal time of 6 am. I’m praying they sleep in.
We’ll see I guess. I’m looking forward to when we can do this sort of thing on a semi regular basis together as a family. Or at least when they are old enough that we can stay up together and do something as a family. They’re getting there.

Camping 101 July 5, 2007

Well, we just got back from our first camping trip as a family. What a blast!!! I’m tired, sunburned (crispy and well done actually) but I’d do it again next weekend if we could. Our campsite was awesome. The lake was about 5 feet from the back of our tent. The kids pretty much stayed in the water the entire time. We had some really great neighbors that had jetskis. They took the kids for rides and were just really nice. Only downer was the ants. We didn’t realize it but we set up our tent on several ant hills whose occupants then decided to invade our tent. The upside, it took them 3 days to get into the tent. The downside, we cut our trip short because we couldn’t get them out of the tent. And they bit.
So we decided to pack it up Tuesday night and head home.
We left Sunday morning and got our camp all set up by 4 or so that afternoon. And then that night there were fireworks that we were able to watch from our campsite. They were beautiful and it was the first time that the kids got to watch fireworks. They were really excited about it all. Monday we went to the zoo for the day. Tuesday we went to the beach, where I got burned. But everyone else had alot of fun.
I think that camping is definitely going to become a regular family activity for us.
I’ll try to post some more pictures later.
